On March 28th, a group of talented Wilcox County second graders performed in A Show of Classics. Songs included Getting to Know You and I Whistle a Happy Tune from The King and I, Do-Rea-Mi and My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain from the movie Singing in the Rain, Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, Impossible from Cinderella, Put on a Happy Face from Bye, Bye Birdie, Tomorrow from Annie, and I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing from the 1970’s classic Coke commercial. Not only did the group sing, students performed awesome routines that made the songs come alive. Some faculty and volunteers even joined in the show. They include Hailey Davis as Dorothy, Tracey Mullis as the gal who won the kiss in Bye, Bye, Birdie, Debbie McDonald dressed in a slicker with umbrella from Singing in the Rain, Valerie Oliver as the fairy godmother, Dianne Stubbs as Anna, Amy Grimes as Maria, Sue Powers as the wretched manager of Annie’s orphanage, and Susie Gordon as a hippie from the 70’s. Tia Fitzgerald portrayed a diva and Toni Rucker was her personal assistant. There was a repeat performance for students and staff on the following day. The program was directed by Angela Lindsey.
