Kayla Johnson, an 8th grader at WCMS, received third place in the 8th grade division in the Jimmy Carter NHS statewide postcard design competition. Judges selected designs that best reflected the theme for the competition. This year’s theme was “Fluttering through Plains: Peanuts and Butterflies.” Each student design had to feature at least one peanut and one butterfly. Students were to include artwork that reflected Plains, farming, Carter’s political career from Plains to the White House, or the Carters’ post-presidency work through The Carter Center, R.C.I. and the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail.
Former President Jimmy Carter presented Kayla with her award and a signed copy of one of the books he has written. The presentation was held during the Plains Peanut Festival on September 26.
