Wilcox County Middle School’s 8th grade class recently welcomed a special guest speaker. Mr. Larry Gibbs, a retired Army veteran and former superintendent of Wilcox County Schools, spoke to the students about World War II and Vietnam as well as his experiences with the military. The students were very interested in the history lesson as they had been studying Georgia’s contributions to World War II and Vietnam in social studies class.
Mr. Gibbs talked about life in boot camp and how disciplined that he had to become. He showed several military items that he has been collecting and that were used in combat, such as helmets, MREs (Meals, Ready to Eat), and grenades that had been rendered inert. Students were able to ask questions, and the students seemed to really enjoy the chance to learn about the military.
WCMS would like to thank MR. Gibbs for his service as well as taking the time to talk to the students.
