On Monday August 15, as PASS students began the fall semester, parents attended an orientation session. The purpose of the August Family Engagement session was to familiarize families with the 21st Century Afterschool Program (PASS). Ginny Clack, Project Director, discussed several topics including: required student attendance, results of the Summative Evaluation and the importance of parent involvement. Family members were encouraged to have an active role in their child’s education by attending the monthly family engagements when possible. Two parents volunteered to serve on the Advisory Council which meets in October and March.
Jena Rossman, PASS Family Engagement Coordinator shared information about Literacy Night at WCES on Thursday Sept 1st. PASS will partner with Family Connections and the Wilcox County School System to host this fun family event. Jena discussed future parent engagements to include a tailgate party, participation in the Fall Festival and Holiday activities. She then asked parents for suggestions and input for future events.
Each parent received a PASS Student Handbook to retain as a reference. The handbook was discussed and parents had the opportunity to ask questions. Several parents shared the many ways PASS had positively impacted their child. To conclude the evening, refreshments were served and door prizes were awarded.
