On Thursday, September 22nd, 2016, five exceptional students from Wilcox County High School were recognized as REACH Scholars because of their hard work in school and plans to continue reaching for their goals in the future. The REACH Scholarship will award these students $10,000 in college tuition, and some Georgia colleges and universities have agreed to match the scholarship if the students attend, which would provide a total of $20,000. According to the REACH Georgia page, “REACH Scholars are required to sign a contract vowing to maintain good behavior, keep a cumulative grade point average above 2.5, meet with their REACH mentor at least twice a month and, along with their parents’ guidance, focus on achieving both a high school diploma and college degree.”
This year school system in nearly 70 Georgia counties have participated in the REACH program. Governor Nathan Deal has said that he plans for all Georgia counties to participate in the program by 2020.
The recipients are Lorraine Sutton, Alexander Ramsey, Grace Coleman, Carson Burnette, and Lexie Anderson. Congratulations to these students for their accomplishments!
