Last week, voters overwhelmingly approved the E-SPLOST referendum for Wilcox County Schools. Beginning July 2017, the one cent sales tax for education will be continued and proceeds will be used to repay bonds for the new PK-12 school. By approving the E-SPLOST, Wilcox County citizens renewed their commitment to our school system and to our children. Of the 3934 registered voters in Wilcox County, 3003 or 76.33% voted in the general election. Our E-SPLOST referendum was approved by 76.53% of voters.
To those of you who reinvested in our children by voting yes, thank you. To those of you who helped us spread the word and encouraged your friends and family to vote, thank you. To those of you who shared information in your church and community, thank you. To those of you who offered your thoughts and ideas for our new PK-12 school, thank you. On behalf of the 1212 students and 183 staff members who will benefit from your reinvestment in their lives and futures, thank you!
I want you to know that I am humbled and honored by the support of our community. The Board of Education and school staff will continue to set high expectations for our students. Additionally, I will continue to operate the school system both fiscally responsible and with transparency. Your tax dollars make a difference in our children’s future. Thank you for believing in Wilcox County Schools!
