Attendance at school is important because students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently. All children between the ages of 6 and 16 are required to attend school. Student attendance is tracked by period at all three schools. Therefore, if a student arrives to school late or checks out early, they will be counted absent from that respective class.
Wilcox Middle and High School notify parents via an automated phone call when their child has missed school. If you do not receive an automated call regarding your child’s absence, please call the school.
Students who miss instruction due to absence, tardiness or early departure are expected to present written excuses signed by the parent or guardian stating the reason for the absence, late arrival, or early departure. The written excuses should be provided to your child’s teacher within three days of retuming to school. All schools will allow two home notes excusing a child’s absence when they are sick, have a family emergency, or family death. After three home notes, administration may require doctor excuses or additional verification for repeat absences.
