Patriot Athletic and Competitive Events

BOE Stationery

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we are in the middle of another exciting basketball season here in Wilcox County, we are thrilled to see our students showcase their talents, hard work, and teamwork on the court. Our athletic events provide an excellent opportunity to unite as a community, celebrate our school spirit, and support our student-athletes.
To ensure that all attendees enjoy a safe, respectful, and positive environment, we want to remind everyone of the
importance of appropriate spectator behavior at games. The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) and Wilcox County Schools place a high priority on sportsmanship, and we expect the same level of respect and conduct from our spectators as we do from our players, coaches, and officials. This pertains to both home and away games.
Here are a few key expectations for spectator conduct at our basketball games:
  1. Respect for All Participants: Please cheer positively for our team and show respect for the opposing team, coaches, and officials. Negative or derogatory comments will not be tolerated.
  2. Follow Game Official Decisions: Referees and officials work diligently to maintain fairness in play. Arguing with or harassing officials is unacceptable and detracts from the spirit of the game.
  3. Positive Encouragement: Focus on supporting our athletes through encouragement and positive reinforcement. Avoid behaviors or comments that could distract or demoralize players on either team.
  4. Respect for Coaches: Do not chastise or belittle coaches, and refrain from personal attacks on them. They dedicate significant time and effort to guiding our student-athletes and deserve our support and appreciation.
  5. Model Good Behavior: Remember that you are setting an example for our students and younger spectators. Demonstrating good sportsmanship is essential to creating a positive atmosphere.
  6. Adherence to School Policies: Any inappropriate behavior, including the use of foul language, aggressive conduct, or disruption of the game, may result in removal from the venue and possible further disciplinary action.
We are proud of the Wilcox County community and know that together, we can create an environment that reflects our values and commitment to excellence. Let’s work together to make this basketball season an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone involved.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools and student-athletes. We look forward to seeing you at the games, cheering loudly and proudly for our teams!
